Malibu Beach at Sunset

One of my actor friends, Orion, hit me up to go shoot by the Malibu beach at sunset ! We drove up the Pacific Coast and found this stunning spot right off the side of the road. There were huge rocks on the grassy slope that made the perfect dramatic backdrop. This was just a fun shoot with really no objective. So we decided to capture a mix of vintage film vibes with the classic Hollister All-American Look.

External Flash

I tried out using my external flash as the sun set into blue hour… Eventually I want to try capturing these beautiful photos that set the internet on fire when they were first published. I’d love to experiment with my flash more, because I really only use it for indoor event photography. But I think it’s a really versatile tool that could be utilized for so much more. Even when already sunny, an external flash can add a specific retro film flash look, which has become super popular.

Living so close to the beach is life-changing. Even though I’m not a huge sand or salty air fan, I love that I can go whenever I need a break. I have so many more ideas for beach photoshoots too. I want to take photos with my longboard and pretend I’m some cool skater chick. Or get cute roller skates and a lollipop or something and be someone entirely different. Anything for the photo! I’d also love to get in the water and get some shots wearing my new swimsuits that are picture perfect.

Enjoy these photos from the Malibu beach at sunset! And props to Orion for being such a natural model. I could easily imagine these as a spread in Calvin Klein. Don’t forget to check out my recent album of photos of UCLA graduates! Reach out if you’re interested in booking with me! I shoot couples, engagements, individual portraits, weddings, grad photos, you name it! Recommend a friend and get 10% off your own shoot. 🙂
